How do I know if my photo will look good on a canvas? ›

A photo that is blurry, grainy, or has low contrast may not look good when printed on canvas. Make sure your photo is sharp and has good contrast before printing it on canvas. Aspect Ratio: The aspect ratio of your photo should match the canvas size you are planning to print it on.

How to make art look expensive? ›

Canvas prints may appear blurry if they don't have high-quality pixels. Ideally, you need 200-300 PPI for good results. Anything less can result in pixelated images, particularly when viewed from a distance. A print with fewer than 100 PPI is only acceptable for smaller sizes, such as prints smaller than 40x60 inches.

If monitor brightness is set too high, an image may look fine onscreen, but when printed, appear much darker than you expect, with a loss of detail in shadow areas. If there is a bright background (e.g. from a light, a window or a sunset), the subject of your photo will appear dark and details will be lost.

The most crucial factor in determining whether your smartphone photos are suitable for printing is the resolution. Higher-resolution images tend to print better. As a rule of thumb, aim for a minimum resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch) for small prints (4×6 inches) and 150 dpi for larger prints (20×30 inches).

Recommended resolution for canvas prints

For smaller canvas prints (8x10, 12x16): As a general guideline, a minimum resolution of 1800x2400 pixels at 150 DPI is recommended. This resolution guarantees a good level of detail and sharpness in the printed image.

If the resolution is already set at 300 PPI, your artwork is print-ready. If your artwork appears pixelated, it's low resolution. If it appears crisp at 300 percent, then your artwork is print-ready. Your image resolution will display in the details tab.
