This creamy, flavorful Homemade Coleslaw Dressing Recipe will make your coleslaw and broccoli salad next level! It comes together in under 5 minutes and includes just 3 ingredients!
Most of my life I avoided coleslaw because most included thick, gloppy mayo-based dressings that lacked flavor.
I took matters into my own hands and created this Homemade Coleslaw Dressing Recipe, and it’s been a game changer for me.
This dressing is part of my weekly food prep as broccoli slaw and coleslaw are two of our favorite sides!
Why you’ll love this recipe:
- This coleslaw dressing recipe is creamy, sweet and tangy. It’s perfect for coleslaw, broccoli salad and more!
- It’s made with just 3 ingredients and it comes together in just 5 minutes.
- Make this a no mayo coleslaw dressing by substituting the mayo with Greek yogurt, or sub with vegan mayo to make it vegan.
Recipe ingredients
This coleslaw dressing recipe includes just 3 ingredients, which can be substituted with what you have on hand.
Ingredient notes
- Mayo. I typically use avocado oil mayo for my coleslaw dressing as it’s the healthiest choice. The good news is that you can use whatever you have on hand — classic or vegan mayo, or even substitute the mayo with Greek yogurt.
- Apple cider vinegar. This is my favorite vinegar to use in this dressing as it adds a sweet, tangy flavor. If you don’t have any on hand, white vinegar or white balsamic vinegar would be good substitutes.
- Maple syrup. I love pure maple syrup for it’s flavor, but you may substitute it with honey or your favorite sweetener.
How to make this recipe
This homemade coleslaw dressing is extremely easy to make and comes together in just 5 minutes!
Pro tip: Avocado oil mayo is the healthiest option, but this dressing works with whatever type you have on hand.
- Place all ingredients into a medium bowl or wide mouth jar.
- Whisk until smooth.

Marcie, your photos are GORGEOUS! I love that this is just three ingredients and contains no mayo. And such a great idea to use maple syrup instead of sugar. My kind of dressing! I bet you could find a lot of different uses for this, too. Sound so good!

Two thumbs up for Vegenaise! It’s crazy how hard it can be to find non-dairy mayo at standard grocery stores. We looked for some when we went home to Florida for Christmas and all they had were giant tubs on the very bottom shelf. No one wants to try something for the first time by buying a gallon of it! Maybe that was just the city we were in but it was frustrating to say the least.
Anyway, this dressing sounds incredible and you know I love that it’s dairy-free! 🙂

Vegenaise is the only non-dairy vegan mayo I’ve ever tried — I love it so much that I’ve never looked further! Thanks Sarah! 🙂

This is such a great recipe to share Marcie. I love homemade salad dressings for their minimal and less processed ingredients. I’m not a fan of mayo either, so I always avoid coleslaw dressing. Not anymore! Definitely trying this one!

This is such a great back pocket recipe. I love Vegenaise too! It has great flavour…I’ve often wished more restaurants would use it instead of mayo. Pinning this for sure!

Back pocket recipes don’t make it here often and I need to change that! Thanks Katherine!

Hi. I substituted Greek yoghurt for the vegenaise and honey for maple syrup and it was delish. I’m not vegan but I just don’t like mayo. Thanks for your recipe👍

Which other type of sweetener can be used in a broccoli slaw dressing?
I’m Diabetic..Tia
How would honey, mustard dressing taste? I’m guessing I need honey, mustard & apple cider vinegar?
I’m not a cook..lol
Thank you-
flavorthemoments — Reply
You can certainly use stevia or a sweetener that your doctor or nutritionist has approved? You could always leave out the sweetener altogether.

How much should I add to a typical bag of coleslaw mix, roughly 14 oz?
-
Marcie — Reply
I typically just eye ball it, but I’d suggest anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 cup.

Best dressing ever. I’ve made this broccoli slaw several times since I found your recipe & shared it with a friend.
We make our own Greek yogurt & use it. No more mayo dressing for me.
