After numerous iterations of Street Fighter II (and its spin-off Street Fighter Alpha series), Capcom continues its classic fighting game series with a new cast of fighters, a higher-quality graphical style, and revamped gameplay mechanics (introducing the "parry" and "Super Art" systems).

Characters
- Alex From New York, Alex is the central character of the Street Fighter III series. He represents a group originally meant to replace all past Street Fighter characters.
- Dudley British heavyweight boxer and proprietor of the curly moustache.
- Effie Effie is the love interest of Necro. She also mimics some of Necro's actions.
- Elena Kenyan Princess first introduced in the Street Fighter III line of games with New Generation. She fights using Capoeira and is infamous for having a Super/Ultra which allows her to heal herself.
- Eliza Masters Ken Masters' girlfriend and eventual wife in the Street Fighter series.
- Gill The infamously powerful Gill is the final boss in all versions of Street Fighter III.
- Ibuki Ibuki is a character originating from the Street Fighter 3 line of games. She is an aspiring female ninja.
- Ken Masters The best friend and rival of Ryu, Ken serves as one of Street Fighter's main recurring characters throughout the Street Fighter series.
- Kolin The secretary of Street Fighter III antagonist Gill.
- Linn Kurosawa One of the playable characters of Capcom's Alien vs. Predator.
- Mel Masters Son of Ken and Eliza.
- Necro Necro is a character from the Street Fighter 3 line of games. His moves are similar to both that of Dhalsim and Blanka.
- Oro Oro is a character from the Street Fighter 3 line of games. He magically binds one of his arms in order to not kill his opponents.
- Ryu A wandering martial-artist, Ryu is a master of the fictional fighting style, Ansatsuken. He is one of the main characters in the Street Fighter universe. Only those that have beaten him know his surname.
- Sean Sean Matsuda is one of the many featured characters in the Street Fighter III series. He is the protégé of Ken Masters and hopes to become the strongest fighter in the world, despite his inexperienced and outgoing behavior.
- Yang Known as The Wind Gust Dragon, Yang is one of the series of new characters to appear in the Street Fighter III. He is also featured in Super Street Fighter IV along with his brother Yun.
- Yun Known as The Water Storm Dragon, Yun is a Chinese martial artist and the older twin brother of Yang introduced in the Street Fighter III games.
